Triple Glazing: Replacement Triple Glazed Units for Homes and Trade
Triple Glazing in Cambridge, Huntingdon, Ely & Newmarket
A misted triple glazed unit doesn’t necessarily mean a new window. When the seal on a unit fails, condensation forms between the panes and the glass loses alot of its insulation. We can replace the unit and keep your exsisting frame.
At Clearglass (Cambridge) Ltd, we supply and fit replacement triple glazed units for homeowners across Cambridge, Huntingdon, Ely and Newmarket. We also supply triple glazed units to window fabricators, joiners and builders who need glass for new frames, either supply only or fitted by our expert team on site.
What Is Triple Glazing?
A triple glazed unit is a sealed glass unit made of three panes rather than the normal two you find in regular double glazing. The two gaps between them are filled with argon gas, and the panes usually carry low-E coatings that reflect heat back into the room. It’s thicker and heavier than a double glazed unit, typically 36 to 44mm, so a replacement has to match the frame’s rebate exactly.
We supply and fit triple glazed units for:
- Homeowners with misted, cracked or failed triple glazed units
- Newer homes and eco-builds around Cambridge, such as Eddington and Trumpington, where triple glazing was fitted from new
- Window and door fabricators, joiners and builders who need units made for new frames
- Landlords and letting agents who need failed units replaced quickly between tenancies
Replacing Misted or Failed Triple Glazed Units
The signs of a failed unit are easy to spot: fogging or droplets between the panes that won’t wipe off, a cloudy film on the inside of the glass, or a crack in one pane. Once the seal has gone, the unit can’t be repaired, but the frame almost always can be kept, therefore keeping your costs much lower.
- We measure the unit on site so the new one matches the frame and the original thickness perfectly
- Like-for-like replacement, or an upgraded spec such as acoustic laminated, toughened or solar control glass
- Laminated glass that blocks up to 99% of UV rays, helping stop furnishings, flooring and fabrics fading in the sun
- Units made in 7 to 10 working days
- Most units replaced in a single visit, with new gaskets and beads where needed
- We can replace triple glazed units in uPVC, timber and aluminium frames (subject to survey)

- Units ready in 7 to 10 working days
- Account customers invoiced on agreed terms against your purchase order
Key Benefits of Triple Glazed Units
- Better thermal insulation than Double Glazing: U-values of around 1.0 W/m²K for a 36mm unit and 0.9 for a 44mm unit, and as low as 0.6 for a 52mm unit where the frame can take it
- Warmer glass on the inside: the inner pane stays closer to room temperature, so there’s less condensation on cold mornings
- Noise reduction: the extra pane helps, and an acoustic laminated specification helps more near busy roads such as the A14
- Keep your frames: a failed unit is replaced on its own, with no need to rip out sound frames

Triple Glazing for Cambridge, Huntingdon, Ely & Newmarket
Triple glazing is becoming more common in newer homes around Cambridge and across Huntingdon, Ely and Newmarket. When one of those units mists up, you need someone who can match it exactly, not sell you a new window. We replace failed triple glazed units in homes across the area, and supply units to local fabricators, joiners and builders working on new frames.
FAQs
Can you replace just one misted triple glazed unit?
Yes. We replace the failed unit on its own and leave the frame in place, so there’s no need for a new window.
Why has my triple glazing misted up?
The seal around the edge of the unit may have failed, letting moist air into the gaps between the panes. Once that happens the unit can’t be repaired, and it also loses much of its insulating value, so it needs replacing.
Can you match the thickness of my existing units?
Yes. We measure the unit and the frame on site, then have the new unit made to the same overall thickness so it fits the existing beads and gaskets.
Do you supply triple glazed units for new frames?
Yes. We supply triple glazed units to your schedule of sizes and specification for window fabricators, joiners and builders. They can be supply only or fitted on site by our team.
How long does it take?
Units take 7 to 10 working days to make once your order is confirmed. Most replacement units are then fitted in a single visit.
What guarantee do triple glazed units come with?
Most of our sealed units come with a guarantee against unit failure of 10 years in uPVC and aluminium frames, and 5 years in timber frames. Units are made to British Standards or recognised industry standards. For supply-only units, the guarantee depends on the units being fitted correctly, and we may ask to check the fitting if a unit fails. Guarantee terms can change, so the guarantee that applies to your units is the one confirmed on your quotation.
Do you replace whole windows?
No. We specialise in replacing the glass units, not the frame, so you keep your existing windows and doors and simply replace the units inside them.
Can I upgrade the glass when I replace a unit?
Yes. A replacement is a good time to add acoustic laminated glass for noise, toughened or laminated safety glass, or solar control glass for rooms that overheat. Laminated glass also blocks up to 99% of UV rays, which helps stop furnishings, flooring and fabrics fading in sunny rooms (Reference).
